2016 Iceland

Our Easter Holidays were spent in the lovely city of Reykjavik! We knew this would be an expensive holiday so we did our best on a budget and were successful! Below are some of the things we did and general useful information.


Accommodation: Hlemmur Square very nice hostel located on main street walking distance from everything. 20€ per night in 12 bed dorm
Return Bus from Airport: €35 drops you to your accommodation
Northern Lights: Book at Hostel €50 they can be cancelled on the day so book it the first day you arrive, if you don’t see them they let you go the next night without charge.



  1. Volcano House €12.50 Show times are every hour, on the hour from 10:00 to 21:00.
  2. Hallgrímskirkja (Famous church you can go to the top) €6 Go on walk and see Harpa Concert Hall, Sculpture beside it, Statue of Lief Eriksson
  3. Blue Lagoon: 70€ for Premium Package use a ton of conditioner in your hair or else it will be rock hard, go in the morning you can stay as long as you want
  4. Golden Circle: €63 Book at your hostel, all day trip bring lots of food, 8.30am start Thingvellir National Park (mid Atlantic ridge), Geysir geothermal area Strokkur geyser and Gullfoss (Golden Falls)



  5. Hike Reykjadalur (natural hot springs at end) just outside Hveragerđi (40 minute drive): Rent car €110 for cheapest car for day from ProCar www.procar.ie you need a credit card, or leave a deposit of like 44,000 ISK bring towels, food, swimgear etc. Highlight of our trip!



^^Those are the most expensive things you can do put they are the must dos! Below are other suggestions;

  • There are lots of geothermal pools in Reykjavik and most are open 06:30-22:00 Mon-Fri and 09:00-19:00 Sat-Sun. Admission 550Kr. Laugardalslaug is the city’s biggest pool and is part of the National Stadium. 
  • Escape Room: 12:00-20:00 4 players 4990ISK €35 per person
  • National Museum of Iceland: Located at the campus of the University of Iceland it brings you through a history of the country to the present day. Admission 1200Kr
