2017 Madrid

Madrid is such a beautiful city with lots to do and a busy, lively atmosphere. Myself and the girls headed for 5 days in July, shortly after we finished school. Below are some of the things we got up to!

We stayed in Santo Domingo, Calle San Bernardo 1- a lovely hotel, very central and a rooftop pool and bar which we loved!! They do great cocktails at night with a stunning view of the city!

1. Visit Royal Palacio Real- go early to avoid queues, The basic ticket costs €10, the admission is free with Madrid Card. Dont miss the gardes for snacks/read a book

2. Look at sunset at Temple of Debod- Egyptian Temples from Aswan

3. Walk around Retiro Park/Parque del Retiro, gardens, marble statues and take a boat on the lake. Inside the park visit the Palacio de Cristal, Sttaue of the Devil made of glass

5. Best hot chocolate con churros (a popular Spanish treat) in town! The Chocolateria San Gines first opened in 1894, and has been serving delicious churros perfect for dipping in chocolate ever since. This place is so popular that it’s open 24 hours, 7 days a week!

6. Shopping at the Gran Via

7. Cable car of city from above Teleferico

8. Day trip to Segovia: Segovia is another beautiful and ancient place to visit very close to Madrid. The city is famous for its huge roman aqueduct and was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1985. There is a lot to see in Segovia and if you got enough time (meaning more than just 3 days in Madrid), then absolutely consider a day trip.

9.. Escape Room: I am a big fan of Escape Rooms and this is probably my favourite one of all!! The girls never did one before so it was so exciting! We managed to escape by only a few seconds! We did the Lab Room!

10. Puerta del Sol, or “Gate of the Sun”, is another one of Madrid’s busiest plazas. In this square you’ll want to find Point 0, which serves as the beginning point for the 6 National Roads of Spain. There’s a famous statue of Madrid’s heraldic symbol (the Bear and the Madroño Tree) you don’t want to miss.

And that's it! Of course there are lots of amazing things to do in Madrid. If you have done something that people should know just leave a comment!!
